Switchable glass finds applications in various industries, including architecture, automotive, aviation, healthcare, and privacy-sensitive environments. It offers advantages such as privacy control, energy efficiency by reducing the need for blinds or curtains, glare reduction, and the ability to create dynamic spaces with adaptable light transmission.

The first step in making bringing this to the mass market is to bring manufacturing knowhow locally

Founder Jeffrey Chong invested RM1.2M in a production plant in Shah Alam launched in 2022. Chong stated during the plant’s launch that smart glass is generally unaffordable for Malaysians, which is why Chiefway Malaysia aims to make it more accessible by utilizing their own manufacturing capabilities and technology.

By increasing production volume, they anticipate cost reduction. The plant, spanning 8,000 sq ft, is equipped with advanced manufacturing devices and patented tools to aid in the development of Chiefway’s smart glass formulation.

Switchable glass comes in 2 types of function, architecture purpose and interior purpose

Chiefway Smart Glass is developed using advanced technology glass production process, with optimum quality and passed various technical tests. When the electric is on, the light transmittance can go as high as 81%, power consumption lower than 6W/m2; reaching high international standard.

Smart glass can be used internally as privacy glass, safety glass & externally as shading panel

Their Smart Glass are available in various sizes and can be customized according to customer requirement. Custom Size can be tailor-made based on thickness, special shape & opening; and can be as large as 4200mm x 2100mm.

Alternatively, there is smart film developed as a solution for privacy or ad-hoc requirement

Chiefway have been independently developing core materials for more than ten years and have acquired multinational intellectual property rights so far. Professional name is PDLC Smart film  (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) polymer dispersed liquid crystal.

There are electronically controlled film, electronically controlled visual film, electronically controlled liquid crystal film from Smart Window Film to electronic curtain and so on. The energy-saving building materials can effectively isolate ultraviolet and infrared rays, achieve the effect of light transmission and heat insulation, and then reduce room temperature and save space power consumption.

Our principal, Chiefway Optronics New Material Co., Ltd. is a high-tech enterprise in Jiangsu Province. The company has independently developed and manufactured PDLC Smart Film, PDLC Glass, Smart Switchable Window Film and has obtained multi-national patent certification and energy conservation certification. In 2018, he participated in the compilation and approval of the National Standard of Polymer dispersed Liquid Crystal Film Glass (GB/T 35847-2018).
