Chinese + Oriental design
UTAR University’s Architecture shows vast influence of the oriental style. Such an architectural identity is strongly tied to the founding history of the institution, and appears natural amidst the students’ demographic which majority speaks Mandarin as their first language. We appreciate the use of chinese architectural features that critically respond to the context of tropical climate, evident in the extended roof eaves that forms shaded verandah spaces, and the organically presented clay brickworks that can be seen throughout the campus.
